Police believe a Holden Commodore and a Honda Civic travelling in the opposite direction collided head-on on Brown Coalmine Road, near Quarry Road, in Yallourn North about 3.35pm on Monday.
The girl suffered serious injuries and was in a critical condition and flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital, but died she Monday evening, police said in a statement.
A woman, 29, who was in the same car as the girl, was flown to The Alfred hospital with leg, chest and neck injuries, police said.
It is believed the car the woman and girl were travelling in also had two other children in the back seat.
