Sydney chainsaw dispute death inquest begins as authorities come under the microscope

“The evidence will indicate that the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism – that is a blockage in an artery in the lung,” Ms England said.

The inquest, before Deputy State Coroner Derek Lee, will hear about the actions of NSW Police, Corrective Services NSW and Concord Hospital staff.

Issues likely to be considered include the firing of a Taser in the presence of flammable liquids, the adequacy of guarding Mr Kline in hospital and his restraint, and the assessment of the risks of deliberate self-harm and deep vein thrombosis.

An RSPCA NSW inspector will also give evidence about 13 Rottweilers in Mr Kline’s possession and his resistance to the animal welfare group’s attempts to seize them while he was hospitalised.
