Two dead after Wollongong car crash

Two people have died following a car crash on the Princes Highway in Wollongong.

An 80-year-old man and 80-year-old woman from Miranda were driving south about 10am in the Wollongong suburb of Dapto on Thursday morning when their Volkswagen Tiguan crashed into the rear of a mobile crane, which was travelling in the same direction.

Both became trapped in the vehicle, and were attended at the scene by officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District. They were removed before being taken to Wollongong Hospital with internal injuries.

The man was transferred to St George Hospital on Thursday afternoon, where he later died.

The woman died at Wollongong Hospital on Saturday.

The 48-year-old man from Albion Park and the 42-year-old man from Dapto, who were travelling in the mobile crane, were not injured.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
