“It was really good to get the group 2 with Champagne Cuddles last start and this might be the chance for Egpytian Symbol to match her.”
I Am Serious has been made Millie Fox favourite at $3.50 after impressing on the trial tracks in recent weeks.
“They don’t go much better than she did in her trial,” jockey James McDonald said. “I think she is in for a really good preparation and it looks a nice race for her on Saturday.”
Baker has a lot of respect for I Am Serious but believes the race fitness will help his mares.
“We got them up and running early, so we would have that edge,” he said. “Egpytian Symbol won at the Magic Millions and has really gone forward since the run a fortnight ago.
“Champagne Cuddles is a mare that keeps getting better as she goes into her preparation and we will make a decision whether she goes to the Coolmore Classic or Newmarket in Melbourne.”
Baker is starting to build a good team for the carnival and believes Samadoubt can continue on his winning ways in the Parramatta Cup as he steps up to 1900m.
“He is going to control the race from the front, like he always does, and gets in well at the weights,” Baker said. “He has been very strong at the end of a mile and I think it is the right time to step him up.
“This has been his best campaign and to win a race like the Parramatta Cup would be great for him.”
Baker hasn’t been a player in the two-year-old ranks this season, up to now, but is confident he might roll “a couple of good babies” on Friday.
Fastnet Rock colt Edison has been trusted to the Warwick Farm trainer by Highclere and debuts at Canterbury.
“He has been good in his trials and we are putting on the blinkers for the first start and you will see a sharper horse,” Baker said. “I think Bright Rubick and Schill Be A Star will run well at Canberra as well on Friday.”
