Friday night’s much anticipated battle between Geelong skipper Joel Selwood and Magpies stopper Levi Greenwood may not happen, with Collingwood weighing up whether there is room for a tagger in their star-studded midfield.
The 30-year-old Greenwood has had several memorable battles with Selwood in recent seasons but has been playing off half back during the JLT Community Series and had 10 touches against Carlton in Morwell last Monday.
Pies coach Nathan Buckley said Greenwood was a valuable part of the Magpies’ squad but they were weighing up whether he would attempt to shut down Selwood on Friday night.
“Whether we pull that trigger or not you will know in the next couple of days but he’s obviously had a good record on Joel,” Buckley said.
Greenwood did not play against Geelong last season when the Cats prevailed but he was a key reason behind Collingwood’s wins over Geelong in 2016 and 2017 when he restricted Selwood to 17 touches two seasons ago and 18 disposals in 2016.
