Search team at Bluff Knoll finds body believed to be missing mother Lorjie Bautista

Ms Bautista was due to take part in a day trek up Bluff Knoll but did not enrol at the visitor’s register last Tuesday morning.

She was last seen about 4am earlier that day and staff at the local holiday park where she was staying raised the alarm when she failed to return by Thursday.

Her husband Arman Bautista, who travelled from Mandurah to Albany last Sunday with the couple’s 15-year-old daughter, told Nine News Perth he was hopeful search crews would locate his wife.

“Me and my daughter, we’re dying to see her. We hoped they’d find her today,” he said on Sunday.

Search teams consisting of about 50 police and state emergency service volunteers, tracking dogs, a drone and thermal imaging equipment were into their sixth day of searching for Ms Bautista.

Temperatures had dropped as low as three degrees, prompting police to hold grave fears for her welfare.

“She’s out in the elements and hypothermia is also an issue with continued exposure, so that’s a worry to us,” Acting Superintendent Alex Ryan said on Sunday.

WA Police had earlier said every available resource was being used to try find Ms Bautista.

“An extensive area has been covered during the search operation, and WA Police Force thanks the SES volunteers and other members of the search team for their continued commitment to the search operation, as well as the support agencies, such as Salvation Army Emergency Services, who continue to support those involved in the search,” a statement said.

Bluff Knoll Road, carpark and walk trail would remain closed to the public because of the police operation until further notice, WA Police said.

Further information could be obtained via the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions in Albany on (08) 9842 4500.
