Song Company goes into administration

The Song Company, Australia’s best-known professional vocal ensemble, has been placed in administration.
The shock move, announced by the Sydney-based ensemble on Thursday evening, potentially brings to an end 35 years of prestigious music making.
“The directors have considered the financial affairs of the company and it is in their opinion that the company faces the possibility of becoming insolvent at some future time, if it were to continue to trade,” reads a statement.
It continues that “most” events will be postponed or cancelled.
The current musical director, Briton Antony Pitts, took the helm in 2016 following the 20-year tenure of Roland Peelman.
Since its foundation, the company has built an enviable reputation for musical excellence but also for a broad repertoire ranging from early music to contemporary programs.
Its upcoming concert tour was to unite the 12th century music of Magister Perotin with compositions from up-and-coming Melbourne electric bass duo The Omnific.
Further comment is being sought from the company.
