What’s on TV: Monday, May 27

“Taking the world of online dating offline,” is the tag for this Kiwi production putting 16 lissom youngsters on a tropical island, plying them with alcohol and pairing them up for a chance at a $100,000 prize for the last couple standing. You could say they’re monetising The Bachelor in Paradise formula, but this game show displays extant cruelty in allowing the contestants to judge each other, Tinder-style, before their meeting, with the predictable bitchiness about those who look better in their pics than IRL, augmented by hosts who happily announce “now we’re about to find out who’s the least popular girl on the island”. This is trash TV that jumps the shark from guilty pleasure to god-awful.
