95-year-old man on scooter dies in Maryborough crash

An elderly man driving his mobility scooter through the centre of Maryborough has died after he was hit by a car.

Police believe the 95-year-old was hit at the intersection of Inkerman and Clarendon Streets in the town north-west of Melbourne just before 3pm on Thursday.

He was airlifted to hospital but died on arrival.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The exact circumstances behind the tragedy are still being investigated.

It takes Victoria’s 2019 road toll to 153 compared to 98 at the same time last year.
