Richmond’s Higgins hospitalised with brain bleed

Richmond small forward Jack Higgins is in hospital and facing an indefinite period on the sidelines after scans showed he had suffered a brain bleed.

Second-year Tiger Higgins is understood to have suffered headaches following Richmond’s VFL game against Werribee on Sunday.

Scans revealed the 2018 goal of the year winner had bled from his brain. The cause is unknown.

The Tigers are expected to release a statement on Wednesday morning with more details.

Higgins, who was a revelation last year after being taken as a first round draft pick has endured mixed form this season, and was dropped following the round 13 loss to Adelaide.

He finished equal fourth in last year’s Rising Star award.
