Trainer Daniel Bowen has so much faith in Queen Of Kingston that he’s adamant he could set the mare for a race over any distance and she would be capable of winning it.
Two runs at 1600m, including a win, followed by a drop to 1215m and then back to 1600m might look like an unorthodox preparation, but Bowen said today’s $150,000 Coffs Harbour Cup (1600m) is the race he wants to win.
The Lismore trainer is also keen for the six-year-old to be given a chance in the $1.3million The Kosciuszko (1200m) later this year, and that’s why her lead-up run was in the 1215m Daniel Baker Prelude 10 days ago.
“If I ran her in a mile again before the cup it would be stretching it out,’’ he said. “There was one big run left in her and that’s why I ran her in the 1200m as well as to showcase she can win over any distance if set for it. She pulled it off and hopefully we can do it again. She’s taking every step up the ladder and she deserves a big race like this.’’
