Melbourne are weighing up whether they have the capacity to join St Kilda and several other clubs in the chase for Fremantle speedster Brad Hill.
The Demons are keen on Hill – viewing him as the ideal type of player to complement their inside midfielders – but it is unclear whether they will have sufficient salary-cap room to make a serious bid for the contracted midfielder, whom the Dockers have maintained will not be traded.
St Kilda are believed to have impressed Hill’s management with their approach and would be in a far better position to offer Hill the kind of money required to entice him to their club.
Hill would be expected to command around $800,000 a season, his stocks having risen in the course of 2019 as clubs recognise his elite ball use and running ability.
Although Hill has two years remaining on his contract, the scramble for his attention from several Victorian clubs has been ongoing, with clubs believing he is gettable. Their view is that his partner is understood to be keen to relocate to Victoria.
