$590 million gas terminal slated for Newcastle Port

“NSW currently relies on interstate sources for 95 per cent of our gas supply and experts predict a shortfall in supply from existing sources in the coming years,” Mr Stokes said.

The proponent Newcastle GasDock Company will have to prepare an environmental impact statement for the project, which will go on public exhibition.

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment will make a recommendation on the merits of the multi-million dollar project before Mr Stokes makes a final decision.

Nationals leader and acting premier John Barilaro said the new terminal would help manage the state’s energy security as the Liddell power station closes.

The terminal would increase locally available gas supply by 110 petajoules, according to the government.
