Troubled by the prospect of Trent Cotchin reinjuring the hamstring that has been torn twice already this year Richmond will rest their captain for another week.
But for the game between the two premiership favourites Richmond will be bolstered by the return of their best player Dustin Martin.
Who goes out of the team with Martin coming back in is still to be determined with Jack Ross the late inclusion for Martin last week doing a good job tagging Carlton’s champion Patrick Cripps. The coaches are keen to keep Ross in so it is uncertain who will be omitted.
The MCG clash with West Coast has potential to be a grand final preview with the two most recent premiers finding form in the second half of the year to push for top four. Sunday’s game, along with the Geelong-Brisbane Lions clash, will shape the top four and thus the finals.
This is the first time the teams have played in 15 months – since round nine last year when the Eagles beat Richmond in Perth. Remarkably West Coast have played Collingwood five times since that game.
