Two girls, 14, charged over beating and robbery at shopping centre

Two 14-year-old girls hit a woman on the head repeatedly at a Logan shopping centre carpark overnight after the victim refused to hand over her mobile phone, according to police.

The 37-year-old woman was approached about 9pm on Wednesday at the shopping centre off the M1 motorway in Shailer Park, almost 30 kilometres south-east of Brisbane.

It will be alleged the teenage girls demanded the woman’s mobile phone and when she refused, the girls hit her over the head several times with an unidentified weapon.

Police said the accused pair then took the woman’s mobile phone and handbag and fled.

Officers with a police dog tracked the girls to nearby Warnambul Road and arrested them.

The teenagers, one from the inner Brisbane suburb of Red Hill and the other from Meridan Plains about 100km north of Brisbane, were charged with robbery in company and stealing.

The victim suffered minor injuries.
