‘Dancing’ climate protest on Princes Bridge to shut down key tram routes

A nine-hour climate change rally which has promised picnics and dancing on a Melbourne CBD bridge is expected to cause major disruptions to tram services in the city.

Public Transport Victoria has said on its website eight tram routes along Swanston Street and St Kilda Road will likely be affected by the Extinction Rebellion protest, which is planned for the Princes Bridge from 12pm on Saturday.

Tram routes 1, 3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72 will face delays and disruptions, with PTV recommending City Loop trains as an alternative.

Extinction Rebellion organisers said online the peaceful protest would “draw attention to the climate and ecological emergency we are facing”.
