Tigers consider shifting Easter Monday blockbuster away from Bankwest

Wests Tigers have vowed not to release disgruntled star Ryan Matterson unless there is a “favourable outcome” as the club contemplates shifting the blockbuster Easter Monday clash against Parramatta from Bankwest to ANZ Stadium next year.

Tigers coach Michael Maguire, who only allowed his team to break for holidays after completing their final training session on Tuesday, is in the process of reshaping his roster. The joint-venture outfit has had no joy offloading several highly paid stars including Josh Reynolds, Ben Matulino, Russell Packer and Chris McQueen in a bid to free up salary cap space.

However, one player they want to keep, Matterson, wants out of the final two years of his contract. The former Rooster has been given permission to speak to rivals, although Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe said a release would only be granted on their terms.

“Ryan has two years to go on his contract still,” Pascoe said. “His management came to us four-to-six weeks ago requesting if he could test his value in the marketplace.
