Underrated Mizzy ready to fly in Silver Eagle

Mizzy started the preparation with the non-winner tag, after one in 13 starts, but has shed that label by becoming the first mare to win the Toy Show Quality, Sheraco Stakes and Golden Pendant in the same year.

She already has a couple of group 1 fourths to go with them from the Surround Stakes and Coolmore Classic, which along with her winning streak has her rated at 110.

“At least the handicappers think she goes all right,” Cummings joked. “The conditions of this race being set weights and penalties really suit her, even as a group 2 winner.”

Cummings believes the best way to ride Mizzy is to take a sit, rather than leading, which hasn’t  happened since the Toy Show when she was explosive in the straight.

“There is a bit of speed in the Silver Eagle, so we might be able to let her get into a good spot and use her turn of foot,” Cummings said.

“Her last two wins have been from the front through circumstances. There wasn’t any speed so she went forward. That is one of her great assets, that she’s adaptable.”

The Sheraco Stakes and Golden Pendant wins were mirror images as Mizzy got to the fence, controlled the speed and then dashed home running 33.55 and 33.59 seconds for the last 600m in those races.

She will have a new partner for the Silver Eagle with Tim Clark taking over from the suspended Tommy Berry.

“That was a good sign. When Tommy got his time I had Tim’s manager on the phone within 20 minutes kicking up for the ride. He obviously does his form,” Cummings said.

“As I said she is [in] great order and a soft track won’t worry her if the rain comes, so I expect her to run well. She might surprise everyone else and win again.

“This has been a plan since the start of the preparation and it has gone perfectly in terms of results, so far.”

While a soft track won’t hurt the chances of Mizzy, Cummings would prefer it not rain for swooping sprinter November Man.

“He likes its firm,” Cummings said. “This race looks pretty good for him because he loves the 1100m on his home track and there is plenty of speed.

“So, we would like it not to rain.”
