Swans won’t give up young stars for Daniher

Sydney have dismissed out of hand the prospect of trading star youngsters Isaac Heeney or Nick Blakey to Essendon in order to land Bombers’ forward Joe Daniher.

The Age reported on Saturday that Essendon wanted a player to be part of the deal and sources confirmed reports the Bombers threw those names at the Swans in discussions during the week around what it would take for them to trade Daniher who requested a trade to Sydney for lifestyle reasons with one year remaining on his contract.

Heeney, 23, won the 2015 Rising Star Award while Blakey’s first year was considered along with Carlton’s Sam Walsh and Port Adelaide’s Connor Rozee as the most impressive of the 2018 national draft crop.

The Dons want a player to be included in the trade for Daniher as they believe his absence would halt their momentum unless they can find a player of quality to fill his void, despite the fact he has played just 11 games in the past two seasons.
