Sliding Swans down on Friday nights in 2020 AFL fixture

Sydney’s fall down the ladder has cost the club several coveted Friday night appearances but the Swans have a date with Joe Daniher in the marquee time slot to kick off their home season.

And Greater Western Sydney’s increased box office appeal has been recognised with more national free to air TV exposure after the AFL’s release of the 2020 fixture on Thursday.

The Swans, who missed the finals for the first time last year since 2009, have just two Friday night games next season, down from five in 2018 and seven the year before when they were one of the glamour sides of the competition.

There will, however, be considerable interest in both those clashes, with one coming against Essendon, who thwarted Daniher’s move north in the trade period, and the other against Geelong to open the league’s Indigenous round.
