Hiker missing near Mt Stirling hasn’t made contact for a week

A hiker has gone missing near Mount Buller in the state’s north-east, with police search crews setting out to find him on Saturday morning.

Police are appealing for assistance to find 39-year-old Niels Becker, who left Upper Jamieson Hut, 10 kilometres south of Mt Buller, on October 24.

Mr Becker called family from the Valejo Ganther Hut on 26 October, saying he intended to head to Mount Stirling.

Police say it’s not clear what route he was planning to take to get there. He was due back at his vehicle on 29 October, but was reported missing after he did not return.
