In 2018-19, a total of 201,592 properties changed hands in Victoria and incurred stamp duty in the process, which generated almost $5.5 billion for the state government.

This was almost 20,000 fewer transactions than in 2017-18, which translates to $1 billion less in stamp duty collected.

A small number of Melbourne postcodes recorded increases in sales volumes over the past year, including Moonee Ponds, Melton South and Lyndhurst.
