Perth woman receives facial injuries after dating app first date allegedly turns violent

Police alleged it was after the woman asked the man to leave that he kicked and punched her several times.

She received facial injuries and was taken by ambulance to Joondalup Health Campus for treatment.

The man was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and will appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on November 21.

Police said issued a warning to those using dating apps following the alleged incident.

“As online dating and use of social media applications to meet people continues to grow in popularity, it is important that all members of the community be vigilant when it comes to their personal safety,” they said.

They urged people to use trustworthy applications; don’t give away too many personal details; meet in a public place; arrange transport to and from the date; and ask a friend to check in, using a code word to alert them of danger if necessary.

Police also reminded people that apps don’t do background checks, and that users can report anything suspicious to police.
