Ban on single-use plastic utensils considered for Queensland

Plastic straws, cutlery, plates and stirrers could soon be banned in Queensland under a state government plan to cut down on waste.

A law forbidding the supply of single-use plastic items would be introduced to Parliament next year, Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch said.

Ms Enoch said the state government was also looking at extending such a ban to coffee cups, plastic cups and heavy-duty shopping bags.

“There is a growing concern amongst Queenslanders about the amount of plastic being used in everyday life,” she said.
