Medium-sized forward Christian Petracca ended up topping the Dees’ goalkicking with 22 majors, closely followed by Jayden Hunt, who slotted 21 goals after being shifted forward from defence.
Mature-age rookie Tim Smith was used as a tall forward intermittently but retired at the end of the year.
Brown – who also has AFL experience in defence – is available to be signed by the Demons as a delisted free agent any time before the deadline next Friday.
The Dees focused on outside run during the trade/free agency period, bringing in Adam Tomlinson as a free agent from Greater Western Sydney and Ed Langdon via a trade from Fremantle. The Dees parted ways with tall defender Sam Frost, who has joined Hawthorn. Jeff Garlett, Declan Keilty, Jay Kennedy-Harris and Billy Stretch were delisted by the Demons, while Jordan Lewis, Corey Maynard and former Melbourne Renegades cricketer Guy Walker also retired.
The Dons’ key tall stocks have been hit following the delisting of Brown and the departure of Michael Hartley, who appears poised to join Hawthorn. Joe Daniher is set to return after a pair of injury-interrupted seasons having failed in his request to be traded to Sydney.
Essendon have also been linked to delisted Richmond key forward Callum Moore.
Brown, 29, played 55 games in four years for the Bombers, having initially been cut by Geelong in 2014 after 15 AFL appearances for the Cats.
The Dees have also shown interested in delisted pair Harley Bennell (Fremantle) and Sam Murray (Collingwood).
