Australian Open not a platform for Court’s views, says Woodbridge

Australian tennis great Todd Woodbridge says Margaret Court will not be able to use the Australian Open as a platform for her views opposing homosexuality after accepting an invitation to the tournament to mark the 50th anniversary of her Grand Slam.

On Saturday, Tennis Australia announced it would welcome Court along with her family and friends to the tournament to celebrate the milestone.

TA sent a television crew to visit Court at her home in Western Australia and film a documentary focusing on her tennis career, which will be shown at the tournament, and they will host a number of other events during her visit.

But the governing body also denounced her views and will continue to be involved in a number of LGBTIQ events including an international LGBTIQ tournament called the “Glam Slam” which will be hosted during the Australian Open.
