Beijing: An annual meeting of former world leaders in southern China hosted by Australian political donor and businessman Chau Chak Wing has garnered prominent Chinese state media coverage.
Chinese Vice-President Wang Qishan gave the keynote speech at the Imperial Springs forum, which opened on Sunday in Guangzhou at a resort owned by Mr Chau.
Mr Chau also addressed the forum of 27 former world leaders, which was televised. Guests included former president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, former New Zealand prime minister Jenny Shipley, former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt and the late US president George H.W Bush’s son Neil Bush.
The front page of the official People’s Daily newspaper reported that Mr Wang gave a speech supporting multilateralism in global affairs.
