AFL consulting with clubs on bushfire fundraising

The AFL has already begun consulting clubs on how they can best respond to the bushfire crisis occurring throughout Australia as communities in East Gippsland and on the NSW south coast brace for Saturday’s ominous forecast.

They are expected to focus initially on how to best support fundraising efforts for communities affected and acknowledge the work of volunteer firefighters, emergency services and support agencies involved in the disaster.

AFL CEO Gill McLachlan released a statement on Friday saying they would work with clubs, state bodies and corporate partners to ensure their efforts are co-ordinated and clubs were being made aware that plans for a response were in train.

“The AFL is currently working with clubs, state bodies and our corporate partners on a coordinated response to support fundraising for those communities impacted, and ensure we acknowledge and support the work of the firefighters, emergency services and volunteers who have selflessly sought to protect and provide for tens of thousands of people,” McLachlan said.
