Sonny Bill Williams was hailed as ‘‘a training freak’’ after his first practice with the Toronto Wolfpack before his return to rugby league.
Former All Black Williams, a double Rugby World Cup winner and former NRL superstar with Canterbury and the Roosters, has joined his new teammates at the trans-Atlantic rugby league team’s training base in Manchester, England.
‘‘He’s come back in great shape,’’ Toronto coach Brian McDermott said of Williams, who had not handled a ball since the All Blacks won the bronze medal at the World Cup in Japan in November.
‘‘The guy’s a training freak anyway, a gym freak. You can’t keep him out of the gym. He looks good.’’
