AFL state-of-origin fundraiser on cards for bushfire victims

All clubs have been desperate to find ways to support fund-raising efforts for the bushfire appeal with the AFL looking to develop a coordinated approach.

They have been heartened by the willingness of players to become involved in whatever is suggested with the AFL keen to ensure the game includes wide representation across the competition.

The AFL played a fund-raising match in 2009 to support victims of the Black Saturday bushfire with the game between the Western Bulldogs and Essendon raising $1.2 million.

The most recent time a state-of-origin match was played was a Hall of Fame tribute match between Victoria and the rest.
