Macarthur FC’s inaugural squad is beginning to take shape with the Bulls having completed their first signing, Tommy Oar.
The 28-year-old former Australian international rejected an offer to remain with Central Coast Mariners next season in favour of joining the A-League newcomers. Sources close to the player say he has agreed to personal terms with the Bulls over the weekend and signed a deal to become the first player to join the Campbelltown-based club.
It appears Macarthur have made a left-sided attacking midfielder one of their top priorities, having previously targeted Sydney FC star Milos Ninkovic who was close to joining the expansion club before signing a two-year contract extension with the Sky Blues.
Oar was touted as one of Australia’s most promising talents when he broke into the A-League as a teenager with Brisbane Roar, earning a move to Dutch club FC Utrecht in 2010. He spent five seasons in the Eredivisie, making 117 appearances for Utrecht before moving to English Championship club Ipswich. He had a second stint with the Roar in 2016 for a season before venturing overseas for a year at Cypriot club APOEL and then returned to Australia with the Mariners in 2018.
