White Island volcano death toll hits 20 as Australian teen named among dead

Wellington: New Zealand’s coroner has declared Australian teenager Winona Langford and New Zealand’s Hayden Marshall-Inman were killed in December’s White Island volcano eruption, bringing the death toll to 20.

Langford and Marshall-Inman’s bodies were not found after the eruption, despite numerous land and sea searches.

“The chief coroner has ruled that both Winona and Hayden died on White Island,” John Tims, a deputy police commissioner, said in a statement on Thursday.

The 17-year-old Langford was travelling with her parents Anthony, 51, and Kristine, 46, and older brother Jesse, 19.
