Another gun Sydney forward is headed for surgery with Isaac Heeney to have an operation on Thursday to repair a broken thumb.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury at training on Monday and will be unable to engage in contact at training for a month as he wears a brace as part of his rehabilitation.
Heeney finished sixth in the club’s best and fairest and is considered one of the game’s best young players. He is expected to be right for round one when the Swans play Adelaide, with the durable forward having played at least 20 games in each of the past four seasons.
It is another blow for the Swans which sent star forward Lance Franklin in for knee surgery as soon as they returned from their post-Christmas break.
The Swans missed the finals in 2019 and attempted to recruit Bombers’ spearhead Joe Daniher in the off-season.
Meanwhile Sydney premiership coach Paul Roos has announced that he is stepping back from Fox Footy in 2020 to focus on his corporate and speaking interests. Roos was a panellist on On the Couch in 2019.
