Place of pride a step closer with extra $10m for LGBTIQ centre

Members of Melbourne’s LGBTIQ community could have an extra spring in their step as they take part in Victoria’s largest pride march on Sunday, with the state government pledged a further $10 million for the Victorian Pride Centre.

The government had already committed $15 million towards construction of the centreon  Fitzroy Street, St Kilda – along the parade route – but added a further $10 million when federal funding wasn’t forthcoming.

The centre, the first of its kind in Australia, provides a space for groups and organisations to share ideas and resources to support the LGBTIQ community.

Minister for Equality Martin Foley said the funding was a significant investment aimed at ensuring equality.
