A two-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway on the central Queensland coast has killed two men and left two others with critical injuries, forcing the closure of the highway in both directions.
The collision occurred near Carmila, about 90 kilometres south of Mackay, about 4am on Tuesday and involved a two-trailer truck and a van, according to a fire service spokeswoman.

Police said both the driver of the van, a 57-year-old man, and his 59-year-old male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, about three kilometres north of Carmila at the intersection of Karloo Road and the major highway.
Two other men travelling in the van, aged 37 and 31, were transported to Mackay Base Hospital by the RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter with critical injuries.
