Monash Freeway closed, man fighting for life following high speed crash

The inbound lanes of the Monash Freeway have been closed to all traffic and a man is fighting for his life after a car crashed into a truck at Narre Warren this morning.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit, who are currently at the scene of the crash, believe a Holden station wagon was travelling inbound at speed in the emergency lane when it clipped a truck and lost control about 7.30am.

A male passenger in the station wagon was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in a critical condition.

Police arrested the 21-year-old driver at the scene and he is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The Monash Freeway inbound has been closed to all traffic at Ernst Wanke Road.

Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone that may have dash cam footage of the collision.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
