Event cancellations and venue closures in Queensland

With public gatherings of more than 500 people effectively banned across Australia amid the coronavirus pandemic, a number of major events have been cancelled in Queensland and the future of many more remains uncertain.

Below is a list of events that have been cancelled or postponed because of coronavirus concerns.

Events cancelled

  • Eat Street Northshore (until further notice)
  • Friday Night Market and Sunday Discovery Market, Brisbane Markets, Rocklea (Weekly, effective March 16)
  • All remaining Brisbane Comedy Festival performances (effective Monday, March 16)
  • Jimmy Eat World at The Tivoli (March 19)
  • Surf Life Saving Queensland championships, Sunshine Coast (March 20-22 and 27-29)
  • Gallery of Modern Art Water Up Late (March 20-21)
  • Athletics Australia and Queensland Athletics’ Queensland Track Classic (March 20)
  • Introducing Nashville at The Old Museum (March 23)
  • World Science Festival Brisbane, along with some regional events (March 25-29)
  • World Surf League 2020 Championship Tour, Gold Coast (March 26 – April 5)
  • Byron Bay Bluesfest, NSW (April 9-13)
  • Paniyiri Greek Festival (May 23-24)
