A select few retailers at the Emporium shopping centre reopened their doors on Monday, although there wasn’t a huge rush from shoppers despite signs the coronavirus lockdown may soon end.
The CBD mall was closed for about three weeks after the state government imposed strict social distancing rules to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
As other states begin lifting their restrictions, Victoria has stuck firm with its plan to reassess when the current state of emergency expires on May 11.
Fifteen stores, including Muji, Brooks Brothers and Chanel, opened for trade at Emporium on Monday under reduced operating hours. It is expected more will join them in coming weeks.
