Cody Walker tells of $20,000 blackmail attempt over fight

An NRL spokesperson confirmed the integrity unit is aware of the incident. Staff from the unit will speak to Walker on Monday.

The Rabbitohs confirmed they were aware of the investigation.

“The South Sydney Rabbitohs are aware of an incident involving player Cody Walker which took place in northern New South Wales in October 2019,” the statement read. “The NRL’s integrity unit have been informed.

“At no stage has Cody Walker been the subject of a police enquiry in relation to this incident.

“The Rabbitohs will be making no further comment on this matter at this stage as it is part of an ongoing police enquiry instigated by Cody Walker himself.”

Walker’s ordeal is the latest off-field drama which has plagued Souths in recent weeks.

Star recruit Latrell Mitchell was at the centre of a social distancing scandal when he hosted Storm flyer Josh Addo-Carr and his relatives at his property in Taree.

The Souths fullback was handed a $50,000 fine – 60 percent of which was suspended – and a suspended one game suspension by the NRL for flouting social distancing protocol.

Whether Mitchell will line up at fullback or return to the centres – where he shot to stardom at the Roosters – has also been the subject of intense speculation.

The club was also last week rocked by news James Roberts had checked himself into a rehabilitation centre for the third time in four years.

Roberts is not expected to line up for Wayne Bennett’s side when they return to the field in a mouthwatering clash against the Roosters on Friday week.

“I’m very proud of James for what he’s done. He realised the situation he was in and reached out for help,” star hooker Damien Cook said of Roberts last week.
