Melbourne Victory marquee man Ola Toivonen looks set to join one of Sweden’s top clubs, Malmo, now that his time in Australia is coming to a close.
Swedish newspaper Expressen has reported that the 33-year-old international – who, shortly before joining Victory, scored for Sweden in its match against Germany in the 2018 World Cup – is in talks about a deal to finish his career in the top division of his native country.
The club and the player have agreed in principle, the report says. Toivonen is no stranger to the city, some 600 kilometres from the capital, Stockholm, as he played there between 2007 and 2009, scoring 17 goals in 51 appearances.
He then left to join top Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in a career that subsequently took him to France, where he played for Rennes and Toulouse.
