Jack Steven discharged from hospital after stabbing incident

“As a friend and as a former teammate, you just think of his health and safety first and foremost and hope he is doing OK. He has got great support around him. He has got an amazing family, great group of mates, many guys we both played with at the club and obviously the support down at the Cats,” Billings said.

“He has got some great support so hope he can get better and recover fully and play some footy this year.”

The Cats remain adamant their only concern is Steven’s welfare and are conscious that the police need clear air before they start asking their own questions about what led to Steven presenting at Cabrini Hospital in Melbourne at 1am on Sunday.

Steven, who played 183 games with St Kilda before joining Geelong during the trade period, was recovering when police made contact with him about the incident over the weekend.

Police on Monday said “an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway and remains ongoing” while Geelong are regularly checking in with Steven from a welfare perspective.

However, both the Cats and the AFL are keen to understand exactly what occurred on the weekend so they can put the right support in place for Steven.
