Fastly outage hits world news websites

A string of major news websites were affected on Thursday afternoon by an outage on content delivery network Fastly.

The outage occurred around 3.45 and affected news organisations including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Guardian, BBC, The Australian Financial Review, The New York Times and 10 Daily.

It appeared to be limited to Sydney and Perth and lasted for around half an hour.

Fastly is a content delivery network which makes it more efficient for websites to get their content out to a large amount of people by caching it in various locations.
