A promising three-year-old from the Far North Coast, who hasn’t finished further back than fourth in almost a year, can book a start in metropolitan company at a challenging class 2 handicap at Tuesday’s feature Hawkesbury meeting.
Ultra-consistent Cubix, a gelded son of former smart sprinter Rubick, saddles up for his eighth start in four months, having not missed a place since a first-up close fourth at the Gold Coast in late February.
Since then he’s run three close seconds – two at NSW provincial tracks – and two thirds, as well as landing a second career win in dominant fashion on heavy ground in a BM 58 at Ballina 11 weeks ago.
If any youngster deserves a shot in the “big smoke” it’s Cubix, although he will need to be at or near his best against some handy metro-based three-year-olds. His rivals include Randwick duo Snitzify and Foxborough, and emerging Warwick Farm pair Mission Dream and Ladylovestogamble.
