Once more unto the breach, Melbourne

To quote Shakespeare, “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.” Here we go again into lockdown, Melbourne.

The last few days have been unsettling; watching rates of daily new infections rise, hearing rumours of lockdowns, waiting for confirmation, reading too many reports of hardship while trying to prepare as best we can for an unknown future.

The lockdown is biting in big and small ways: people unable to leave their apartments or attend family funerals overseas, devastating job losses, cancellation of community sports just recently resumed, isolation.

We know we must use our time in lockdown productively but the mural on the kitchen wall is already completed, the kitchen cupboards painted a Santorini blue, the window sills are now a glossy white.
