A body has been found by a passing fisherman on a stretch of the Logan River, south of Brisbane, which had been the focus of a search for a kayaker missing for almost five days.
Police said they were alerted to the discovery about 5.30am on Thursday after an air and sea search was launched at the weekend.
Rescuers pulled a 27-year-old Woodridge man from the Alberton stretch of the river after midday on Saturday after the two-person kayak overturned.
Search efforts were sparked when a second man from Eagleby, 26, failed to surface.
The discovery on Thursday was made in the same stretch of the river the kayak capsized at the weekend, a police spokesman said.
Though further work needed to be done to identify the body, it was considered “highly likely” it was that of the missing man.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
