Temperature to climb to 30 degrees across Sydney ahead of weekend cold front

On Thursday, these temperatures could be seen “anywhere westward of Parramatta” in Sydney, Ms Duma said.

Temperatures will reach 27 degrees on the coast, and 29 degrees in inner Sydney, with warm winds of 25 to 40 km/h.

However, things will be much cooler on Friday, as the cold front passes through.

Temperatures will reach 30 degrees in Sydney's west today - but it will be short-lived, with a cold front due to hit on Friday.

“We are looking at a 5 or 6 degree drop,” Ms Duma said, with maximum temperatures in Sydney on Friday to hit 23 degrees.

There are maximums of 21 degrees forecast for both days of the Father’s Day weekend.

A damaging winds warning is in place for warm, gusty winds in the Illawarra, Snowy Mountains and parts of South Coast, Central Tablelands and Southern Tablelands, with speeds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h possible on Thursday morning and early afternoon.

For alpine areas, winds of up to 80 to 100 km/h and gusts in excess of 120km/h are possible.
