A 14-month old child has died after a collision with a car in Bendigo on Wednesday night.

Police said the child appeared to have wandered onto a slip lane on High Street in Kangaroo Flat, about 5km south-west of Bendigo’s CBD, about 7.30pm.

The toddler was hit by a car travelling in the lane and was rushed to hospital with critical injuries. The child later died in hospital.

The driver of the car, a 56-year-old man from Maiden Gully, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their investigation.
