North’s willingness to trade Brown is ‘staggering’, says manager

“North Melbourne are moving in a different direction with the way they want to play and they don’t see Ben as a part of that which I find staggering.

“We thought we were in our right to be asking for that [four-year contract not three] considering what he had achieved.

“When that contract was taken off the table was a very long time ago.”

Brown has led North Melbourne’s goalkicking three times.

Injury, form and personal reasons restricted Brown to nine games and eight goals in North’s torrid 2020.

In the previous three seasons he had kicked 64, 63 and 61 goals.

“We were very comfortable in saying always that Ben wanted to stay at North Melbourne and Ben wanted to be a North Melbourne player for the remainder of his career,” Ramanauskas said.

“Ben was engaged there, you look at Ben’s work with the AFLW team, with the community work he does at North Melbourne … clubs make decisions and we have to look for another home now.”
