Champion jockey Hugh Bowman will ride the Melbourne spring carnival from Caulfield Guineas day to continue his association with King’s Legacy and attempt to win his first Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.
The change in the quarantine conditions for jockeys which them to only spend five days in isolation, helped in making the decision but it means Bowman will be Melbourne-based for the spring.
He would have to do a two-week quarantine when he returns to Sydney down the COVID protocols in NSW. Bowman will give up the riding in The Everest and Golden Eagle by going to Melbourne.
King’s Legacy’s third in Saturday’s Golden Rose was enough to tip Bowman into going to Melbourne for the Caulfield Guineas, particularly considering the rides he will pick up in the three other group 1 races on the day.
