‘Significant day again’ for NSW amid pandemic, says Premier

“Especially given it is school holidays, we want to make sure as people travel to the regions that they do so in a COVID-safe way, and we can only keep doing well in NSW we keep our testing rights high.”

Premier Berejiklian said she would continue to rely on health advice when it came to easing restrictions in her state, saying she would make changes if they are warranted.

The state has recorded four consecutive days without a local case, but the Premier said it was “early days” to be calling the virus eradicated.

“The fact that we’ve had a few days now of zero community transmission is positive, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves,” she told reporters in Goulburn.

“Last time we were complacent the Victorian situation erupted and caused us enormous amount of stress and, and certainly we’ve had to recover since that time.

“Please note that if there are opportunities for us to ease further restrictions, we will look at that.”

Last week, the state announced a number of eased restrictions coming into force either immediately or the start of the next school term.

“We’re always looking to see what we can do in New South Wales, but we need to do it at the right pace, and that’s why it’s important for us to rely on the science and the data,” the Premier added.

“I’ve relied on the same experts from day one, and they’ve stood the test of time and done well the [Health] Minister and I will continue to rely on that advice.”
